The Los Angeles - St.Petersburg Sister City Committee
is a non-profit organization established in
1989 under the leadership of Mayor Tom
Bradley of Los Angeles and Mayor Anatoly
Sobchak of S. Petersburg, Russia. The Committee
is part of Sister Cities International, a
program founded in the 1950s by President
Dwight D. Eisenhower to foster international
cooperation and friendship. Dedicated to facilitating
the flow of culture, ideas, and capital
between Los Angeles and St. Petersburg, the
Committee has promoted and supported cultural
exhibits and exchanges, educational programs, medical
interchange, charitable projects, business and technological cooperation
between these two extraordinary cities.
